Much of our research is business focussed and equips our academics well for business consultancy. The Precision Technologies Centre for Industrial Collaboration offers a range of specialist services to a surprisingly wide range of industries such as biomedical, aerospace, automotive and general machinists where metrology and surface measurement are required.

New facilities include:
- our microbiology testing service, which offers a broad and comprehensive service on biocide, biodegradation and bodeterioration testing to recognised standards, e.g. EN1276 and EN1500 to BS & EN standards and
- IPOS, which specialises in the application of physical organic chemistry to process development and technology optimisation. Collaboration with local companies building on this expertise is helping to bring new innovative products to market.
We can offer similar collaborative development in other areas of the University.
Research units include nanotechnology and precision engineering, business ethics and environmental issues, child-care and development, criminology, assisted conception and infertility and mental and primary health care.
